Now let me tell you, about a place that serves extremely aesthetically pleasing desserts that you won't want to miss for your next Instagram post. This is U :Dessert Story, located in the Castro District of San Francisco, I believed it just opened up early-mid last year. I first heard of this place through friends I follow on Instagram who were posting so many cute dessert photos. And I knew I had to go there one day. So what better opportunity, than to take my visiting relatives from Thailand, who absolutely love all things dessert, and go check it out.

We ordered 3 things: Matcha Bingsu, Thai Tea Crepe Cake and 2 different Matcha lattes (Lattes are their own category obviously).

The Matcha Bingsu.

I really love matcha, but I don't think it's as special as it used to be, just because everyone serves some type of matcha on their menu. But my Uncle loves ANYTHING matcha, so we ordered this one just for him. Here is my review: I give it a solid 7/10. It wasn't the best bingsu I've ever had (that was in Korea), but it also wasn't the worst because it wasn't. It was actually quite tasty. So you get this large bowl of "snow ice" with green tea flavor served on this wooden tray (love by the way) and you also get three little bowls on "condiments." First we have some red bean, then there is a green tea sauce and finally, condensed milk. Honestly, I only really enjoyed it because of the condensed milk, it makes everything better. But overall it was still really good, I wish they had added the red bean into the ice somehow, not for me, but for others. I'm not a fan of red beans in general so I didn't touch it, but I feel that it would've added a special element to the bingsu then it just being green. The green tea sauce was also really good, had a nice scent of matcha, but the condensed milk killed it.

The Thai Tea Crepe Cake

My pick was this delicious looking crepe cake. I actually really enjoyed it, but I just love crepe cakes in general overall because 1) they are nice a light and 2) the cream isn't overly sweet or heavy. My review? 8/10. Seeing as that San Francisco doesn't have many places that sell crepe cakes, I think this is definitely the place to come and try some, but it definitely wasn't the best I've ever had. The crepes themselves weren't as soft as I would have wanted them to be and if this cake didn't have the sauce, it would probably just taste like a simple crepe cake. The sauce itself was pretty good, it had a nice scent of Thai tea that I love and it was a nice accompaniment. I wish that they had incorporated the sauce into the cream somehow, just so you'd have a taste of Thai tea in every bite, so that is where it fell through for me. They also give you little more of the sauce on the side, but I expected the actual cake to do it for me, not so much the sauce.

The Matcha Latte

So here we have two drinks, mine is the matcha latte on the right and my Aunt got the dirty matcha on the left. Not sure how she liked it, but I know it has coffee in it. As for my matcha latte, it was definitely a 6/10 for me. I wouldn't say I am a matcha connoisseur but I much prefer the matcha latte at Griddle Fresh in Noe Valley. If it's a chilly day and you're not much of a coffee person like me, I think you'll like it. It has a hint of bitterness from the matcha and not too overly sweet.
